TACKLE RULES SPRING 2025

Mouth pieces are MANDATORY at all age levels.


Clock will be a 10 minute running clock on ALL levels.


Clock will only stop for point after plays, timeouts and injuries.


2 time outs per half.


There will be no punts on all levels EXCEPT 12U.


There is no blocking below the waist in ALL levels. This is defined as any player (offense or
defense) that blocks below the waist when leading with the head face or shoulders.


Celebrations are allowed. However, it must be a proper celebration that does not taunt the other team. ONLY THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD SHOULD BE IN THE CELEBRATION.


There will be only 1 OT. Each team will get one play play from the 3-yard line. If the scores is
still tied after that, the game will end in a tie regular season. Playoffs we will play on until there is a winner. 
All extra point plays will be done from the 3 yard line.


8 coaches and/or team moms allowed on the sideline for all age groups. (Tackle)


Onside kick can be elected only during the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter for all age levels
except flag. Only the losing team can elect to do an onside kick.

6U FLAG

2 Coaches are allowed on the field. Offensive Coach needs to be behind the white hat at all times, and
Defensive coach must be 10 yards deeper than the deepest player on the field.
All drives will start at the 25. No kickoffs
Punts will be a 30-yard walk off not to penetrate the 20-yard line.
40-second play clock.
Defensive line must be one yard off the ball.
No lining up over the center or in the A gaps. Players MUST line up head up over the guard.

LB must be 3-yards off the ball and cannot creep up before the snap.
If the QB is under center, the QB MUST take a full step backwards before they can run through
the A gaps.
Flags must be on the hips at the start of the play. If they are not, the play will blown dead once
the player touches the ball and will be loss of down.
Ball size Wilson K2 or equivelant (Pee-Wee size)

7u Tackle

Mouth piece is MANDATORY.
40-second play clock.
One coach allowed on the field for both offense and defense.
Drive will start on the 25
Punt will be 30-yard walk off not to penetrate the 20-yard line.
No lining up over the center.  You can line up in the A gaps.
Defensive lineman inside the tackle box MUST be in a 3-point stance.
LB MUST be 3-yards off the ball and cannot creep up before the snap.

8u Tackle

40-second play clock.
No coaches on the field PERIOD.
Drive will start on the 25.
No lining up over the center.  You can line up in the A gaps.
LB MUST be 3-yards off the ball and cannot creep up before the snap.
Defensive lineman can be in a 2 or 3 point stance.
Punt will be a 30-yard walk off not to penetrate the 20-yard line.
Ball size Wilson K2 or equivelant (Pee-Wee size).

10u/12u Tackle

10U and up is live football except for the following.

Punt for 10U will be a walkoff not to penetrate the 20-yard line.
Mouth pieces are MANDATORY.

14U PREP

LEAGUE RULES

14U DIVISION

1. TAUNTING WILL BE CALLED EARLY AND AS NEEDED. Please let your players know that taunting will not be
tolerated.


2. As per NCAA/UIL Rules ONLY clear visors will be allowed. A player will be required to remove a visor that
has tint of any kind.


3. Games will be played with 4 10-minute quarters with a 5-minute halftime. We will use a regulation clock for
the complete game.


4. Once the point after play has been completed, you have about 1 minute to allow for special teams to get on
the field. Once that is over the play clock will start and the kickoff team will have 40 seconds to complete the
kickoff.


5. Wilson GST/ High School regulation ball will be the ONLY ball used for 14U. You can use composite or leather.
Any ball other than the proper regulation size will not be permitted. If your team does not come ready to play
with the proper size football you will assessed a 5-yard penalty, for equipment violation, on your initial
possession, meaning the possession you will start at 1st and 15.


6. The home team is required to supply a chain crew for each game. You are responsible to have the crew on the
field and ready to go BEFORE the coin toss to ensure there is not a delay in the game.


7. Numbering rule: ONE Player can wear jersey number 0 OR 00. Duplicate numbers cannot be on the field at
the same time.


8. Uniforms: Jerseys and numbers MUST have contrasting colors such as white numbers on red jerseys. The
numbers CANNOT be a light color on a light jersey or a dark color on a dark jersey.


9. If a player shows up AFTER the opening kickoff, the player is INELIGIBLE to play until the SECOND HALF. The
player MUST go to the opposing team’s head coach and check in to be able to play in the second half.


10. One way communication devices can be used for 14U. Only one receiver can be installed in one offensive
player (usually the QB) and ONE defensive player for play calling. The player with the communication device
MUST have a good-sized green dot sticker on the helmet for easy identification. If both teams are using
communication devices, and one teams stops working, the other team is not required to stop using their
equipment.


10.1 All communication must stop once the ball is snapped.


10.2 If caught during live play a 15-yard penalty will be assessed for unsportsmanlike conduct and will be
assessed from previous spot and loss of down. If two infractions occur the head official will confiscate the
equipment and will be returned at the end of the game.

UIL Exceptions

1. Persons Subject to Rules 1.1. The audio/video/lighting operators are now subject to rules. Any person on
the field doing video or photography shall not create noise or distractions that prohibit the teams from
hearing it’s signals or obstructs play.


2. Team areas are now extended to the 20 permanently.


3. Players ejected for anything other than targeting will miss the first half of the next game


4.1For ejections, the Big Youth Sports League Advisory Board may take additional action.


4. Leverage Fouls. No defensive player, in an attempt to block, bat or catch a kick or apparent kick may:


             4.1 Step, jump or stand on a teammate.
             4.2 Place a hand(s) on teammate for leverage for additional height
5. Be picked up by a teammate, or be elevated, propelled or push.


6. Defensive holding and/or illegal use of hands is now a 10-yard penalty and carries an automatic first
down.


7. Horse Collar Tackle: All players are prohibited from grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or
jersey, the name plate area, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and ABRUPTLY
pulling the ball carrier down. This tackle has now been added to inside the tackle box.


8. Blocking below the waist is only allowed inside the tackle box, and from a 10-2 angle. The block must be
initiated from the “initial Charge”. The tackle box extends 1 yard beyond the point of the snap. Once a
player leaves the tackle box, they cannot come back in it and block below the waist. Stationary backs
inside the tackle box can block below the waist only inside the tackle box until the ball leaves the tackle
box. This rule is to include defensive players as well.


9. Any sudden movement performed by the defense or offense that is not uniform and causes an offensive
player to move or a defensive player to come into the neutral zone is illegal and is a 5 yard penalty.


10. On punts and Field Goals plays, any player on the line of scrimmage MUST be in a 3-point stance to be
able to rush the play. If not in a 3-point stance, the player must wait one second before rushing.

7V7 SPRING BYSL RULES

7V7 RULES

Starting the game:

  1. A central time keeper will be designated. All games will begin and end on this persons instructions. He will also announce the time remaining at the 10, 5, and 2 minute mark only

  2. Visitors will have first possession and wear light color. The Home team will have first possession  of the 2nd half and wear a dark color.  (one jersey is fine for League Play)

  3. No team will be allowed to participate without shirts or jerseys.

  4. It's preferable if teams have 2 Jerseys but not mandated (white/dark jersey, t-shirt, etc / Tournament)

  5. Dry Fit T-shirts, Under Armor style shirts cutoff or reg sleeves.

  6. Ball is always placed on the right hash mark when at the 40 yard line.

     *Ball Size current grade (7/8u Pee Wee size ball} (9/10U- Wilson K2 or TDJ Size ball) (11/12U- TDJ/TDY)(7th/8th TDY/HS)

      (9th thru HS Official HS Size) *No White Ball allowed...

  7.  Soft shell helmets when worn should have chin straps and no metal components or Head Shell only with no straps

Moving the ball:

  1. Offensive Plays Must be forward passes

  2. Field is marked at 15 yard intervals with cones with 1st downs at the 25 yard line and 10 yard line. Each zone will be 3 downs (no 4th downs in 7on7)

  3. Possession always begins at the 40 yard line at the right hash mark. Hash mark placement of the ball must be enforced by officials, in accordance with NCAA rules, once the ball has been advanced. Offensive Coach may be on the field but if he acts in an unsportsmanlike manner , he can and will be removed from field and can only coach from sideline.

  4. No penalty will be assessed in excess of the 40 yard line. On an unsuccessful or successful offensive play from the 40 yard line resulting in an offensive penalty: The ball will be returned to the 40 yard line and 1st down will become 2nd down; 2nd down will become 3rd down; and 3rd down will result in a turnover.

  5. Offenses always move in the same direction

  6. All passes must be forward. A pass caught behind the line of scrimmage must be a forward pass

  7.  No flea flickers or double passes or laterals at any time

                                             

Special Rules:  

  1. No blocking.

  2. Receiver/Ball carrier is legally down when touched with one or both hands below the neck. (Excessive force by shoving, pushing, or striking a blow will be penalized by automatic first down and 5 yards. Expulsion of a player(s) if ruled unsportsmanlike & flagrant). NORMAL RULES IS 2 UNS PENALITY  PLAYER IS DQ'd

  3. Fumbles are dead balls at the spot with the last team retaining possession. A muffed snap is not a fumble/dead ball. The 4.0 second count remains in affect on snaps.

  4. Two delay of game penalties in the same possession results in a turnover. ANY penalty on the extra point try results in a turnover.

  5. The QB is allowed 4.0 seconds to throw the ball. (8U is 5 sec) The Official timekeeper starts a stopwatch on the snap of the ball from center and stops the watch as soon as the QB releases the ball.

    1. If release is 4.0 seconds or under, the play goes on.

    2. If the timekeeper sees that the clock has exceeded 4.0 seconds, let the play go on.... Exception to rule if the Offense Team has thrown a Interception. All passes after the 4 sec clock has expired are live balls (for defense) and can be intercepted and counted as 3 pts for the Defense. So if you throw a pick at any time it will be a turnover and 3 pts for the Defense even after the 4 sec clock. 

    3. The only infractions possible when a 4 second count is called are holding, pass interference &   unsportsmanlike acts.

    4. Defensive Pass Interference will be a spot foul but not to exceed 15 yards (1st down at the spot).

    5. Responsibility to avoid contact is with the defense. There will be NO chucking or press coverage with hands at the LOS.  No Deliberate bumping or grabbing. These actions will result in a "tack on" penalty at the end of the play (5 yard penalty)

    6. Offensive pass interference is the same as NCAA rules. (15 yard penalty)

    7. Interceptions are worth 3 pts in both League & Tourney Play / this can happen after a 4 sec whistle / take care of the ball QB

    8. Offensive team is responsible for retrieving and returning the ball to the previous spot or the new scrimmage spot in a timely fashion. Failure to do so can result in a delay of game penalty.

    9. The offensive center is not an eligible receiver (teams must have a center or Chair). 

    10. The center will be responsible for setting or re-positioning the Referee's cone at the line of scrimmage. On change of possession, the team moving to offense will ensure the cone gets to the new scrimmage line. (centers on both teams responsible).

    11. No taunting. (5 yard penalty & expulsion if flagrant).  Any excessive language can result in penalty and/or removal from field of play as deemed by official.

    12. The offense must gain at least 15 yards in the first 3 or less plays or the defense takes over and Scores 1 point on any turnover on downs

    13. Fighting: the player(s) involved will be ejected from the game and expelled for the next weeks games.  If a team fight occurs, the  team involved will forfeit game could be ejected from the tournament and denied participation in any league play or tournament pending appeal.  Any coach that threatens a ref  can be expelled from the league

    14. 13.     Blitz Rule:   No Blitzing is allowed this season.  

 

 Scoring:

1.  All TD's in League are worth   6pts

2. Interceptions are worth 3pts and intercepting team will go on Offense

3. All Scoring is kept by Head Official and he shall announce score to each bench after each score

    TD=6 pts        

    Safety= 2 pts (touched behind the 40 yd line)   

    Turnover on downs= 1pt

    XP from 5yd line=1pt  (int by defense is worth 1pt on xtra point from 5yd line)

    XP from 10yd line=2pts  (int by defense is worth 2pt on xtra point from 10yd line)

    INT= 3 pts      

    Blitz Rule:   No Blitzing is allowed this season.  

Winning coach must sign Official scorecard after each game to confirm final score....                                  

 

Tie Breaker:  (Playoffs only)

  1. After coin flip to determine first possession, teams will alternate 1play from the 5 yard line.

  2. A winner is determined when one team scores during its play and the other does not.

  3. If a second overtime period is necessary, each team will get one play each from the 40 yard line. Longest gain is declared the Winner. If Yardage is same the process will repeat until a winner is determined.

  4. There is no OT in Pool Play or League Play Games..... ONLY playoff and championship games

 

 

Time:

  1.  2- 15 min halves 1 minute halftime

  2. No time outs. (Exception: Injuries. Both games on the Field will halt until player(s) can be removed as soon as safety dictates).

  3. Clock stops ONLY for injury

  4. 7 on 7 tournaments require that all games start/end at the same time.

  5. Teams must be on site and ready to play when scheduled.

  6. If a team is late and cannot start when the GAME officially starts, they will begin play with whatever time is left on the GAME clock down 1 point per minute and have to start on defense. - not to exceed 10 minutes.  Forfeit will occur after 10 minutes of the game..

 

Field Dimensions:

  1. Field Length--40 yards long (Every 15 yards is a 1st down)

  2. Field Width--160 feet (60 feet to hash mark, 40 feet between)

  3. End Zone--10 yards deep

 

 

                                                                   

Coaches Section

Coaches must have badges to coach on the sideline. No more than 4 coaches per team level including 1 team mom.  Coaches must have coordinating team gear. (ie T shirts polos  ETC…)

 

Absolutely No cussing out referees.  We can argue calls minus the disruptive language. (Penalty unportsmanlike conduct penalty 10 yards auto 1st down vs Def Coach/ 10yrds and loss of down for off coach) An abusive coach can be removed from game. It is all coaches responsibility to control your parents.  Parents running on field for for any reason could result in a forfeit at referees discretion. Please have team at game site 45 minutes before game to avoid forfeit. All Parents must be behind fenced area.

Coaches badges are 20 dollars.

No badge you will have to pay to get in the game until its replaced.
